8th International Yoga Day will be celebrated across the world today
On 21 June, 2022, the 8th International Day of Yoga will be celebrated across the world. The theme of the 2022 International Day of Yoga is Yoga for Humanity. Mysore in Karnataka will host the main event in India on 21 June 2022.
Why only 21st June?
According to Indian culture and tradition, the sun turns south after the summer solstice, after which June 21 is considered the longest day of the year. On 21 June, the sun rises a little early and sets late. In Indian tradition, the time of winter solstice is considered to be a very favorable time for attaining spiritual learning.
Proposed by India
The idea of International Day of Yoga (IDY) was proposed by India during the inauguration of the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held in the year 2014.
