India ranks third in the world in terms of renewable energy

 Recently the 'Renewable Energyn Policy Network for the 21st Century' (REN21) has released the 'Renewable Global Status Report 2022' (GSR 2022). This report documents the progress made in the renewable energy sector.
 
It highlights the opportunities borne by a renewable-based economy and society, including the. potential for achieving more diverse and inclusive energy governance through local energy generation and value chains.

  Main points of the report

1.Renewable Energy- India ranks thirdin renewable energy installations after China and Russia in the year 2021.

2. Wind Energy- India ranks third globally after China, USA and Germany in terms of total installed wind power capacity (40.1 GW).

3. Hydropower Capacity- India added 843 MW of hydroelectric power capacity in the year 2021, taking the total capacity to 45.3 GW.

4. New Solar Photovoltaic Capacity –India is the second largest market in Asia for new solar photovoltaic capacity and third in the world (additional 13 GW in 2021).

5. Total Installations- India has movedbto the fourth position in the total installations (60.4 GW) capacity, beating Germany (59.2 GW).

REN21 is a global group of renewable agents. It includes scientists, members of the Indian government, non-governmental organizations and industry, who have collected data on renewable energy installations, markets, investments and policies in countries around the world.
