Gabon and Togo join the Commonwealth of Nations
The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2022 held in Kigali, capital of Rwanda under the new chairmanship of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, two African countries Gabon and Togo were
included as the 55th and 56th members respectively in the Commonwealth of Nations.
Let us tell you that Gabon and Togo were historically French colonies which were never British colonies.
Rwanda was the last country to join the Commonwealth in 2009. After the entry of Togo and Gabon, there are now 56 member states in the Commonwealth of Nations.
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM)-2022
The 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2022) was held under the theme
‘Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating,
Transforming.' It has raised over USD 4 billion as pledge for the fight against malaria and other tropical
diseases. There have been 24 CHOGMs since 1971, the most recent of which occurred in the United Kingdom (UK) in 2018.
