Amendment made in the Flag  Code of India 2002 to allow hoisting  of the Tiranga day and night


Recently, by amending the Flag Code of India 2002, the Central Government has allowed to hoist the tiranga day and night in the open and on individual houses or buildings. Earlier the flag was only allowed to be flown in the open from sunrise to sunset.

Now any Indian citizen, private or educational institution can hoist the tiranga on all days and occasions in accordance with the pride and honor of the national flag. This decision has been taken just before the 75th anniversary of independence.

The Flag Code of India, 2002 has been further amended vide an Order dated 20 July 2022 and clause (xi) of paragraph 2.2 of Part-II of the Flag Code of India, 2002 shall now be known as under. The flag can now be flown day and night. Earlier the flag was allowed to be flown from sunrise to sunset, irrespective of the season.

The last amendment to the Flag Code of India was done on December 30, 2021, allowing the use of flags made of polyester or stitched in addition to hand-woven, hand-stitched and machine-made flags of cotton, wool, silk and khadi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon people to hoist the Tiranga in their homes from August 13 to 15, 2022. Mr. Modi said that as the nation is celebrating the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav this year, our association with the national flag will be deepen with the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
