Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveils 30 feet high bronze statue of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju in Andhra Pradesh
On 04 July, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of well-known freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju at Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi also unveiled a 30 feet tall bronze statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju. Under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the government is committed to recognize the contribution of freedom fighters and make people aware about them throughout the country.
▪️ Alluri Sitaram Raju
Alluri Sitarama Raju was born on 4 July, 1897. He fought against the British government in the Eastern Ghats region to protect the interests of the tribal community. He was the leader of the Rampa Rebellion of 1922. He was nicknamed "Manyam Veerudu" (hero of the forest) by the local villagers for his heroic deeds.
In the year 1924, Alluri Sitarama Raju was taken into police custody and publicly shot dead after being tied to a tree, effectively putting an end to the armed rebellion.
Many programs will be organized by the government during this one year long festival (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav).
Pandarangi, the birthplace of Alluri Sitarama Raju, will be conserved in the Chintapallih area in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh. The government has approved the construction of the Alluri Dhyan Temple in Mogallu. An idol of Alluri Sitarama Raju will be
installed in this temple and documentaries based on his biography will be made.
