The Central Government constituted the Sanjay Agarwal Committee to make the MSP system effective
Eight months after the withdrawal of three controversial agriculture laws, the central government has constituted a committee to formulate a 'more effective and transparent' system of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops.
Former Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Agarwal has been made the head of the MSP committee. The 26- member committee includes representatives of farmers' organizations, agricultural scientists and agricultural economists, besides officials from the central and state governments.
Minimum Support Price
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) is the rate at which the government buys crops from farmers and is at least one and a half times higher than the farmers'
cost of production. Minimum Support Price is that 'minimum price' for any crop, which the government considers beneficial for the farmers and therefore 'supports' the farmers through it.
