Adipuram Festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu

Adipuram Festival has been celebrated in Tamil Nadu on August 01, 2022. Adipuram is also known as Andal Jayanti. This festival is celebrated in the Tamil month of 'Aadi', which is why it is also called Adipuram. In this festival, the deities of Lord Rengmannar and Goddess Andal are brought in decorated carriages after special prayers.

In this festival, Goddess Andal is decorated and pulled by a car, which attracts a huge crowd of devotees to see. It is believed that Goddess Andal is an incarnation of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.

This Jayanti or festival is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Goddess Andal. Adipuram is also dedicated to Goddess Shakti and it is believed that on this day Goddess Shakti comes to earth and blesses her devotees. According to Hindu Nakshatras, 'Puram' is also a nakshatra out of the total 27 nakshatras.

Andal Thirunakshatram

August 1, 2022 is the birth anniversary of Andal Thirunakshatram and the famous Tamil saint poet Andal, who is believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. She is called Mira of the South. Puram day of Tamil month is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Andal. Puram is one of the 27 nakshatra in Hindu astrology.

Andal is the only female saint among the 12 Alvar saints who devoted her entire life to the devotion of Lord Vishnu. She is believed to have been born in Srivilliputhur during the 7th century AD. She is also considered to be an incarnation of Bhoomi Devi (Mother Earth). Srivilliputhur temple is dedicated to Andal.
