International Day Of Seafarer celebrated on 25th June

International Day of Seafarer is celebrated every year on 25 June to recognize the invaluable contribution of seafarers to the commerce and economic system
around the world. About 90 percent of the world's trade is carried out by ships and these ships are operated by seafarers, who work tirelessly to ensure the smooth
flow of trade through the waters.

The International Maritime Organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating shipping, declared 25 June as International Seafarers Day in 2010. After this, the first 'International Day of Seafarer' was organized in the year 2011.

The primary goal of starting this day is to make the general public aware of the important role seafarers play in global trade and transportation. Along with this, the day also urges private ship companies to provide adequate facilities to their seafarers for safe travel at sea.

International Maritime Organization (IMO)

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized body of the United Nations (UN), which was established in the year 1948 through an agreement during the Geneva Convention. It is an international standards-setting authority primarily responsible for
improving the safety of international shipping.
