United Nations Public Service Day organized on 23rd June
United Nations Public Service Day is organized by the United Nations every year on 23 June as a symbol
of respect and gratitude towards civil services around the world. The theme of this year is 'Building back
better from COVID-19: Enhancing innovative partnerships to meet the Sustainable Development
Goals'.
This day recognizes the work of public servants, emphasizes their contribution in the development of
the society and motivates the youth to make a career in the public sector.
On 20 December 2002, the United Nations General Assembly declared 23 June as United Nations Public
Service Day. In order to increase awareness about this day and the importance of public service, United Nations had started 'United Nations Public Service Awards' (UNPSA) program in the year 2003,
which was updated in the year 2016 according to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The 'United Nations Public Service Awards' program promotes and rewards innovation and quality in public services by recognizing the innovative achievements and services of public institutions, which are helping in promoting more efficient and friendly Public administration in countries around the world in favor of sustainable development.
