100th International Cooperative Day celebrated on 2nd July

International Cooperative Day is organized every year on the first Saturday of July. This year this day will be celebrated on 2nd July to highlight the contribution of the cooperative movement. Cooperatives across the world celebrated the 100th International Day of Co-operatives on 2nd July. This year's slogan for this day is 'Cooperatives Build a Better World'.

The primary objective of organizing this day is to raise awareness about cooperatives among the general public and to highlight the contribution of the cooperative movement in solving the major problems addressed by the United Nations. It also aims to strengthen and expand partnerships between stakeholders at all levels at local, national and international, including international cooperative movement and governments.

Significantly, on 16 December 1992, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passed a
resolution declaring the first Saturday of July 1995 as International Co-operative Day, marking the centenary of the founding of the International Co-operative Alliance. Since then 'International Cooperative Day' is being organized every year.
