Lt Gen Subramanian appointed as new 'Force Commander' of UN Mission
India's Lieutenant General Mohan Subramaniam has been appointed as the new military commander of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). United Nations chief Antonio Guterres issued the order for the l appointment of General Subramaniam. Lt Gen
Subramaniam replaced Lt Gen Shailesh Tinekar from the Indian Army as well.
Tinekar was made the Force Commander of the South Sudan Mission in May 2019. Subramaniam has a distinguished military career.in the Indian Army spanning more.than 36 years. Recently he servedn as the General Officer.Commanding, Military Region
(Operational and Logistics.Readiness Zone) in Central India.
Prior to this, he served as the Additional Director General for Procurement and Equipment Management at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defense (Army) (2019-2021), Deputy General Officer Commanding,.Strike Infantry Division (2018-2019). He served as India's Defense.Officer in Vietnam, Laos and.Cambodia (2008–2012) and as an officer with the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone in 2000.
Let us tell you, India is one of the largest allies of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission. It is the second largest military ally innSouth Sudan, created in July 2011. There were 17,892 peacekeepers stationed there as of November.2021. Of these, 2,385 are Indian
peacekeepers. It has the second largest number of peacekeepers after Rwanda. There are also 30 Indian policemen stationed in Sudan.
