Famous Bengali film director Tarun Majumdar passes away
Noted Bengali film director Tarun Majumdar passed away on 04 July, 2022 in Kolkata. Majumdar (91) had kidney-related ailments. Eminent personalities of the film fraternity, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, have expressed deep grief over the death of Majumdar. In year 1990 Majumdar received the Padma Shri and has five Film fare Awards to his name.

Among his notable works are Smriti Tuku Thak (1960), Paltak (1963) and Ganadevata (1978). He has also directed famous films like Balika Badhu (1976), Kuheli (1971),.Shriman Prithviraj (1972) and Dadar Keerti (1980).

Majumdar was born in British India. His father Birendranath Majumdar was a freedom fighter. Although a student of chemistry, young Mazumdar was fond of making films. He formed a team.named 'Jatrik' along with Sachin Mukherjee and Dilip Mukherjee and started directing films. Tinmurthy's first film is 'Chava Pava'. The hero and heroine were Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen. 'Glass Paradise' was produced under the direction of 'Jatrik'. The film won the National Award.
 
Majumdar came out of 'Jatrik' in 1975. That year he made two films, 'Alor Pipasa' and 'Ekatuku Valbasa'. Since then the director.has given films one after the other..That list includes films like 'Balika Badhu','Kuheli', 'Shriman Prithviraj', 'Phuleshwari', 'Dadar Kirti', 'Apan Amar Apan', 'Ganadevata', 'Aalo'. The director has five National Awards. He has.been awarded the Padma Shri. Tarun Majumdar was awarded the first National Award for the 1962 Bengali film Kanchar Swarg.
