National Fish Farmers Day celebrated on 10th July
The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying have celebrated the '22nd National Fish Farmers Day' on July 10, 2022.
National Fish Farmers Day is celebrated in memory of scientists K. H. Alikunhi and Dr. H. L. Chaudhary. Both of them successfully demonstrated hypophysation (induced breeding technique) on 10 July 1957 in Indian
Major Carps (the common name for several species of fish).
The objective of celebrating it is to recognize the achievements and contribution of fish farmers, aquapreneurs (entrepreneurs in water sector) and fishermen in the development of the fisheries sector in the country and to contribute to the management of fish resources of the country to ensure sustainable stock and healthy ecosystem and to attract attention to change the way of management of fish resources.
National Fisheries Development Board
It was established in the year 2006 as an autonomous organizationnunder the administrative control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Now it works under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. Its objective is to increase fish production and productivity in the country and coordinate fish development in an integrated and holistic manner.
