International Moon Day celebrated on 20th July

International Moon Day is organized globally on 20 July every year. This day is celebrated in honor of the people and their achievements who set first foot on the moon in the year 1969. 'Moon Day' or 'Moon Landing Day' was declared by the then US President Richard Nixon in the year 1971.

After the success of this mission, NASA described this landing as 'the biggest technical achievement'. 20 July is one of the most important days not only in American history, but in the world, as this day opened a new path of exploration and possibilities in the sky.

Significantly, the 'Apollo-11' space mission included Commander Neil Armstrong and module pilots - Buzz
Aldrin and Michael Collins. Although Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong made the first crew landing on the lunar surface, Michael Collins was flying the Apollo 11 command module Columbia around the Moon. Two astronauts collected samples weighing 21.5 kg from the surface of the Moon, which were brought back to Earth for analysis.
