Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the first summit of I2U2 leaders today

On 14 July, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the first summit of the Leaders of the Group of I2U2 from India, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. The conference will be held through virtual medium in which Israel's Prime Minister Yair Lapid, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and US President Joe Biden will also participate.

All these leaders will discuss possible joint projects and other issues of common interest within the framework of the grouping, as well as strengthen economic partnerships in trade and investment in their respective regions and outside. These projects can act as a model for economic cooperation and will provide opportunities for entrepreneurs and workers.

I2U2

Initially I2U2 was formed following the Abraham Agreement between Israel and the UAE in October 2021 to deal with issues related to maritime security, infrastructure and transport in the region. At that time it was called 'International Forum for Economic Cooperation'. It was also called the 'West Asian Quad'.

The I2U2 initiative is a new group of India, Israel, USA and UAE. In this 'I2' stands for India and Israel, while 'U2' stands for United States of America and United Arab Emirates. This is a major achievement which reflects the geo-political changes taking place in the region.

This will not only revive and re- energize the system of alliances and partnerships around the world, but will also add to partnerships that did not exist or were not fully utilized before.
