Union Cabinet approves setting up of Gati Shakti University
On 13 July, 2022, the Union Cabinet has approved the formation of National Institute of Rail and Transport (NRTI) at Vadodara, Gujarat as a Central University. It
will be renamed as Gati Shakti University. It will be given deemed university status.
This will be the second central university of Gujarat. Giving information about the decisions of the cabinet, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag
Thakur said that its capacity will be increased and more courses will be started. The minister said that this initiative is expected to benefit the people of Gujarat and the youth of the country.
The university will become a leader in research and skills training. The university is envisioned to help in
the expansion of the transport sector in India. It aims to provide a supply of highly trained personnel
and state-of-the-art technology. NRTI is currently offering courses like BSc in Transport Technology,
BBA in Transport Management and MSc in Railway Systems Engineering and Integration. This (university) will play an important role in the expansion of the
transport sector. This will ensure a steady supply of highly trained workforce and state-of-the-art technology.
