The world famous Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath begins in Odisha
From 01 July, 2022, the world famous Jagannath Rath Yatra has started in Puri, Odisha, which will run till 12 July, 2022. Lord Jagannath is seated in the form of Lord Krishna in the Jagannath temple. Every year after the Amavshya in the month of Ashadha, his Rath Yatra is taken out.
Thousands of devotees are reaching Puri to participate in the nine-day Rath Yatra of the Deities Lord Jagannatha, Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra.
This yatra is being organized after two years due to the corona pandemic. The chariots of Lord Jagannath, elder brother Lord Balabhadra and sister Goddess Subhadra will proceed on their traditional journey route to the Gundicha temple. It is believed that this temple was built in the 12th century by King Ananthavarman Chodagung Dev of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty.
Jagannath Puri Temple is also called 'Yamanika Tirtha', apart from this, this temple was also called 'White Pagoda' and is a part of Chardham pilgrimage (Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri, Rameshwaram). The temple has four main gates ('Singh Dwar' in the East, 'Ashva Dwar' in the South, 'Vyagra Dwar' in the West and 'Hasti Dwar' in the North). Each door is carved, and in front of its entrance stands the Arun Stambh or Surya Stambh, which was originally installed in the Sun Temple at Konark.
