44th Chess Olympiad 2022 concludes
The 44th Chess Olympiad was held in Chennai in 2022 from 28 July 2022 to 10 August 2022. Held since 1927, this prestigious competition has been hosted for the first time in India and after 30 years in Asia. For the first time this year, the International Chess Federation 'FIDE' started the Chess Olympiad torch in line with the Olympic tradition. The mascot of Chess Olympiad 2022 is 'Thambi'. Thambi means 'younger brother' in Tamil.
India is the first country to have the Chess Olympiad torch relay. India 'B' team won bronze medal in Olympiad Open section, while India 'A' women's side also finished third.
