Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar will launch 'SMILE-75 Initiative' today
On 12 August, 2022, the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar will launch the 'SMILE-75 Initiative' in New Delhi. The full name of SMILE is 'Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise'. It is being launched nationwide through online and offline mode.
A total budget of Rs 100 crore has been allocated by the ministry for the SMILE project till 2025-26.
Its objective is to remove the problem of destitute and beggary, to make cities/towns and municipal areas beggary free and to implement holistic rehabilitation of the people engaged in begging. Under the SMILE-75 initiative, in collaboration with NGOs and other stakeholders, 75 municipal corporations will be identified and comprehensive welfare measures will be implemented for the people engaged in begging.
