India's first underwater metro will start by June 2023
India's first underwater metro service will start in Kolkata by June.2023. The executive agency Kolkata
Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) has.recently given information in this.regard. The East-West Corridor.project is likely to be completed by June 2023.
The Metro line, which will connect Salt Lake to Howrah via Kolkata.with a stretch under the Hooghly.River, is currently operational.between Sector V and Sealdah.stations. KMRC said in a statement, "The target of commissioning the.balance section from Sealdah to.Howrah Maidan is June 2023.
Out of the total length of 16.55 km.of the project, 9.30 km is in.operation between Sector V and.Sealdah. The remaining 7.25 km.length is likely to be commissioned
in less than a year.
Let us tell you that after the completion of this project lakhs of passengers will get a big relief. In.fact, it will connect the busy.Howrah and Sealdah railway
stations as well as the North-South.line of the Kolkata Metro at Esplanade.
Significantly, out of the total length.of 16.55 km, the underground.section is 10.8 km long, while 5.8
km is high. The project was earlier.scheduled to be completed by.December 2021 but has been.delayed due to accidents at.Bobazar in central Kolkata during.tunnel work.
