J&K Launches Village Defense Guard Scheme

 The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has approved the 'Village Defense Guard Scheme 2022' to prevent incidents of terrorist acts inspired and supported from across the border and to boost the security grid in the Union Territory.

This scheme has come into effect from August 15, 2022. The approval for the formulation of this scheme has been given in pursuance of the approval given by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India through a referred communication.
 

It aims to organize a small group of volunteer armed citizens in identified villages in the deep areas of Jammu division along the borders with a view to inculcate a sense of self service, ensuring safety and security of such villages, setting up infrastructure in and around them and checking cross- border movement.
