William Ruto appointed as new President of Kenya
Kenya's Vice President William Ruto has become the country's new president, defeating rival and long-
time opposition leader Raila Odinga. He has been declared the winner of the presidential election.
Ruto got 7,176,141 votes i.e. 50.49 per cent votes while Odinga got.6,942,930 lakh votes or 48.85 per cent votes.
In this way he managed to get the presidency by defeating Raila Odinga. Ruto, 55, will succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has led the country for more than 10 years.
Soon after the presidential results were announced, protests broke out in parts of the country, mainly in western Kenya, which is Odinga's stronghold. In his victory speech, Ruto resolved to extend a hand of friendship to political rivals, to unite the country, and to advance shared development and prosperity.
