G-20 meeting to be held in J&K in 2023


The meeting of the G-20, an influential grouping of the world's major economies, will be held in Jammu and Kashmir, India in 2023. The Union Territory Administration has constituted a five-member high-level committee on 23 June, 2022 for the overall coordination of the meetings.

This will be the first major international summit to be held in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir after the Center abolished the special status accorded to the
erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 in August 2019 and bifurcated it into two union territories.

In September 2021, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal was appointed Sherpa of India for the G20. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been leading India's representation at the G20 summit since 2014.

India has been a member of the G20 since its inception in 1999. The Principal Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development of the Union Territory
will be the chairman of the committee, which was constituted following the letter of the Ministry of External Affairs on June 4.

G20

The G20 group is an informal grouping of representatives of the World Bank, the International
Monetary Fund, the European Union and 19 countries. The G20 group does not have a permanent secretariat or headquarters.
The G20 group brings together countries from the world's major advanced and emerging economies. It represents 75% of global trade, 85% of global
investment, 85% of global GDP and two-thirds of the world's population.The G20 group includes Argentina,
Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. Each G20 country is represented by its Sherpa; Those who plan, guide, implement etc. on behalf of the leader of their
respective country.
