IPS officer Dinkar Gupta appointed as Director General of National Investigation Agency

IPS officer Dinkar Gupta appointed as Director General of National 

Senior IPS officer Dinkar Gupta was appointed as the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 23 June, 2022. Gupta is a 1987 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Punjab cadre. The AppointmentsbCommittee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Gupta as Director General of NIA
till 31 March, 2024, i.e. the date of his retirement. 

Swagat Das appointed as Special Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs

In another order, Swagat Das has been appointed as Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Das, a 1987 batch IPS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre, is currently the Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau. The order said that Das has
been appointed to the post till 30 November, 2024, which is the datebof his retirement.

National Investigation Agency

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is a federal investigative agency set up by the Government
of India to combat terrorism in India. It acts as the central counter-terrorism law enforcement agency. The agency came into existence with the enactment of
the National Investigation Agency Bill, 2008, an Act passed by the Parliament of India on 31bDecember, 2008.

The National Investigation Agency was set up after the 2008 Mumbai attacks, as the need for a central agency to counter terrorism was felt after the incident.
