Alvaro Lario to be the new President of International Fund for Agricultural Development
Recently, Spain's Alvaro Lario has been appointed as the new President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Lario will assume office on 1 October, 2022 and serve a four-year term. He will replace Gilbert Hongbo who has led the organization since 2017.
Lario, who will be IFAD's 7th president, will lead the UN agency at a critical time when global food prices are rising, fueled by the Ukraine war, climate change and the pandemic, with the world's poorest countries most affected.
