Boris Johnson Resigns As Prime Minister Of Britain
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has resigned. There was a rebellion against him in his own Conservative Party. After this, he has now agreed to resign from the post of Prime Minister. However, Johnson will hold this position until a new prime minister is elected.
In Britain, there is a different and special process for choosing the Prime Minister. There is no system like India. In India, if a Prime Minister resigns in the middle, then the one chosen by the party becomes the Prime Minister. The same happens there too, but the
election process is a bit different.
What is the election process in UK?
After the resignation of Boris Johnson, now the party will choose a new leader. Candidates will come forward for this. Two Conservative MPs would have to be nominated.to be declared the prime ministerial candidate.
There can be one, two or more candidates. Conservative MPs will then participate in the voting process. MPs will vote for the candidate of their choice in a secret ballot. The candidate who gets the fewest votes will be eliminated from the race.
This process of voting will continue until there are no two candidates left. When there are finally two candidates left, members of the Conservative Party will vote by postal ballot. The one who gets the most votes in this will be elected the leader.
Earlier, voting was held only on every Tuesday and Thursday, but the summer vacation is starting in Parliament from 21 July, so this process can be completed sooner than that. The leader of the Houseof Commons is the Prime Minister. If the new Prime Minister wants, he can also hold mid-term elections,
but it depends on his discretion.
