Gandhian P Gopinathan Nair Dies At 100
Kerala's Gandhian thinker, freedom fighter and Padma Shri awardee P Gopinathan Nair passed away on 05 July, 2022 at a private hospital due to age-related problems. Nair was 100 years old. Known for Gandhian ideas and values, the Nair was present in the socio-cultural landscape of this southern state for many decades. He was also imprisoned for participating in the Quit India Movement.
P Gopinathan Nair was honored with the Padma Shri award in 2016. Let us tell you that Gopinathan Nair lived Gandhian principles throughout his life. He participated in Quit India Movement in 1942, he worked in Bhoodan and Gramdan movement along with Vinoba Bhave. When Gandhiji came to Kerala, Nair had a close meeting with him and he was greatly inspired by Gandhiji, since then he took Gandhian principles into his life. Nair also held the post of president of Gandhi Sevagram Ashram for 11 years.
