Indian Women's Cricket Team for Commonwealth Games 2022 announced, Harmanpreet Kaur will captain the team
The Indian women's cricket team has been announced for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games to be held from 28 July to 8 August 2022. Harmanpreet Kaur has been made the captain of the team.
Smriti Mandhana has been made the vice-captain. This will be the first major tournament of the Indian women's team after the World Cup. The All India Women's Selection Committee selected the Indian team for the Commonwealth Games 2022 on 11 July, 2022.
This is the first time that the women's cricket team is being included in the Commonwealth Games. Previously the multi-sport event had been played only once, during the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games, when the men's team was included in ODI cricket.
Due to the ICC Women's T20I Rankings, India is one of the five teams to qualify for the Commonwealth Games 2022. The Birmingham Commonwealth Games will be played between eight teams, which will include England, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Barbados and Sri Lanka.
Eight women's cricket teams have been divided into two groups for the Commonwealth Games 2022. India, Australia, Pakistan and Barbados have been placed in Group A. England, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka have been placed in Group B. The top 2 teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals of the competition.
