India's first elevated urban expressway, Dwarka will be operational in 2023
The Dwarka Expressway, which is called the Northern Peripheral Road in the Haryana side, is being developed as the first elevated urban expressway in India. Once commissioned in the year 2023, it will be very helpful in reducing air pollution in Delhi-NCR as well.
Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari informed that the expressway connecting Delhi to Haryana's Gurugram is being developed at a cost of Rs 9,000 crore. The expressway has a minimum of three lane service roads on either side of the road,
which is connected to a 16 lane access controlled highway. This expressway is 29 km long, out of which 19 km will be in Haryana and the remaining 10 km will be in Delhi.
There will be four multilevel interchanges on the Dwarka Expressway. Tunnels/underpasses at major junctions, AT-grade roads, elevated flyovers and flyovers over flyovers will be constructed, including India's longest (3.6 km) and widest (8 lane) urban road tunnel.
The expressway will start from Shiv-murti on NH-8 (Delhi- Gurugram Expressway) and will end near Khidki Daula toll plaza passing through Dwarka Sector 21, Gurugram border and Basai. A huge amount of tree plantation will be done around Dwarka Expressway. 12,000 trees have been planted throughout the area.
