Indigenous aircraft carrier Vikrant concludes the fourth phase of sea trials
The fourth phase of sea trials for indigenous aircraft carrier 'Vikrant' has been successfully completed on 10 July, 2022. During this time integrated testing of most of the equipment and systems including some Aviation Facility Complex equipment was conducted.
The delivery of the ship is targeted for the end of July this year. After.this, this aircraft carrier will be commissioned into the Indian Navy in August 2022, celebrating the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav'.
Indigenous design and manu facturing of aircraft carrier with over 76% indigenous material by Indian Navy and Cochin Shipyard Limited is an epitome of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Make in India Initiative'.
This has led to an increase in indigenous design and manufacturing capabilities, besides development of a large number of ancillary industries, creating employment opportunities for more than 2000 CSL personnel and about 12000 employees in ancillary industries.
The first sea trials of Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) were successfully completed on August 2021. This was followed by Phase II and III sea trials on October 2021 and January 2022 respectively.
During these three phases of sea trials, endurance testing of the propulsion machinery, electrical and electronic suites, deck machinery, life support equipment, navigation and communication systems of the ship was carried out.
