 On 05 July, 2022 Union Minister of.Food and Consumer Affairs Piyush Goyal has released the 'State Ranking Index 2022 for NFSA' during a conference of State Food Ministers on Food and Nutrition Security in India. Odisha has been placed at the top position in the 'State Ranking Index for NFSA' among the general category states

The current version of the indexnmeasures the effectiveness of NFSA implementation primarily through operations and initiatives under TPDS (Targeted Public Distribution System). This ranking will promote healthy competition among the states under NFSA. It is also known as the Food Act, under which the Center provides highly subsidized food grains to around 80 crore people.

The government provides five kilograms of food grains per person per month at Rs 1-3 per kg. It does not cover the programs and schemes implemented by other Ministries and Departments under NFSA. The index rests on three pillars that look at various aspects
of food security and nutrition. Each pillar has benchmarks and sub- standards that support this assessment.
