'United Nations Ocean Conference 2022' was organized in Lisbon, Portugal
Recently 'United Nations Ocean Conference 2022' has been organized in Lisbon, Portugal. The conference was co-hosted by the governments of Kenya andnPortugal. The United Nations Conference on Oceans was organized to ensure global cooperation with the aim of preserving and sustaining the world's ocean ecosystems.
During this time the Lisbon Declaration on the Protection of the Seas was adopted by all 198 members of the United Nations.They also agreed to work on controlling, reducing and preventing marine pollution. Marine pollution includes nutrient pollution, solid waste discharges, hazardous substances, untreated wastewater, emissions from marine areas, and anthropogenic underwater noise.
The Minister of Earth Sciences led the Indian delegation to the United Nations Ocean Conference. India promised to provide science and innovation based solutions for the implementation of Goal 14 through partnerships and optimization of the environment.
The United Nations Ocean Conference 2022 is aligned to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14, 'life under water' and emphasizes the critical need for scientific knowledge and marine technology to build ocean resilience.
