India's First Brain Health Clinic Opens In Bengaluru

Recently, Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar has
inaugurated the first of its kind Brain Health Clinic (BHC) in India in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It has been
set up by the state health department in collaboration with NIMAS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences) under the Karnataka Brain Health
Initiative (KaBHI). Mental health treatment will be available in 243bNamma clinics which will be functional soon.

Brain health clinics will act as nodal centers to diagnose, treat, refer and follow up patients with common neurological disorders and ensure multidisciplinary care including counseling,
physiotherapy, rehabilitation and disability benefits.

Karnataka Brain Health Initiative (KaBHI)

The initiative aims to diagnose and treat neurological issues from the grassroots level of primary health
centers to secondary level district hospitals and then to NIMHANS at the tertiary level.

The main focus of the KaBHI initiative is to train PHC doctors to diagnose and provide primary care
for brain and mental health issues including stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, brain tumors and dementia. It was launched in January 2022 by the Government of Karnataka in collaboration with NIMHANS and NITI Aayog.
