On 15 July, 2022, the Union Education Minister DharmendranPradhan has released the 'National Institutional Ranking Framework 2022' (NIRF) ranking of India's top colleges and universities. Overall, the top five positions have remained the same this year as in
2021. IIT Madras tops this ranking.

NIRF

It was launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in September 2015. After this, in April
2016, the India Ranking was released on the basis of this framework.

It outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. NIRF is the first attempt by the government to rank the Higher Education Institutions (HEls) in the country. Prior to its introduction HEls were usually racked up by private entities, especially news
magazines.
