Union Labor and Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav participated in 'BRICS Labor and Employment Ministers' Meeting'

On 14 July, 2022, Union Minister of Labor and Employment Bhupendra Yadav participated in the meeting of BRICS Labor and Employment Ministers held under the chairmanship of China. The following three priority areas were discussed in the meeting-

1. Promoting Green Jobs for Sustainable Development.

2. Skill Development for Resilient Recovery.

3. To protect the rights of workers in new forms of employment.

Green jobs

'Green jobs' refers to a class of jobs that directly have a positive impact on the planet and contribute to the
improvement of the overall environment. Jobs that ensure renewable energy, conservation of resources, energy efficient means are classified under this. Overall, it aims to reduce the negative environmental impact of economic sectors and advance the process of creating a low-carbon economy.

BRICS

BRICS is acronym for a group of major emerging economies of the world i.e. Brazil, Russia, India,
China and South Africa. In 2001, British economist Jim O'Neill coined the term BRIC to describe the four emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China. The grouping was formalized during the first BRIC Foreign Ministers meeting in 2006.

South Africa was invited to join the BRIC in December 2010, after which the group adopted the acronym
BRICS. The BRICS summit is chaired annually by the supreme leader of the member country in the order B-
R-I-C-S.
