World Hepatitis Day to  be observed today

World Hepatitis Day is observed  every year on 28 July. This year the theme of World Hepatitis Day is
Bringing hepatitis care closer to you. The purpose of this day is to raise global awareness of infectious diseases called hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E, and to promote the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis.

Hepatitis

The term 'hepatitis' refers to any kind of inflammation of the liver i.e. irritation or inflammation of the liver cells due to any reason. It is usually caused by a group of viruses known as 'Hepatotropic' viruses which includes the different types A, B, C, D and E of this virus. Other viruses can also cause it, such as those that cause mononucleosis (Epstein Barr Virus) or chicken pox (Varicella Virus).
