Karnataka announces 2 percent reservation in jobs for sportspersons; basketball will be the state sport
Recently, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced to give 2 percent reservations in
jobs to sportspersons in all government departments of the state government. Presently only Police and Forest Department areproviding 2 percent reservation for sportspersons during recruitment.
Apart from this, the state government has decided to
recognize basketball as a state sport.
He said that the state government has realized that there is a need to provide job security to the sportspersons and urged them to play for the country. "The rest will be taken care of by the government," he said.
Bommai said that Karnataka is the first state to adopt the Amrut Khel. We had Chosen basketball as the state's sport and we will develop basketball courts across the state. To identify sports talent, we will organize a rural sports competition in the next two months.
