Madhya Pradesh's tribal district 'Mandla' becomes country's first 'functionally literate' district
Recently Mandla, a tribal dominated district of Madhya
Pradesh has become the first'functionally literate' district in the country. A person can be said to be functionally literate when he is able to write his name, count and read and write in Hindi. Mandla district had started a campaign, 'Niraksharta Se Azadi Abhiyan'
from Independence Day in 2020.
According to the survey of the year 2011, the literacy percentage in Mandla district was 68 present,
according to the survey conducted in July 2020, about 2.25 lakh people were not literate in Mandla district. On the occasion of Independence Day in 2020, Govt. started the 'Niraksharta Se Azadi Abhiyan'.
Women and Child Development Department, School Education Department, Anganwadi and social workers provided support in this social program.
With their cooperation, educated women of the village were added to the campaign, after which people started joining the campaign, who supported with the study material. The study material available
nearby in the education department was also used.
