Recently, the Sao Joao festival has been celebrated in Goa after 2 years. Sao Joao is also called St. John the Baptist and is celebrated every year on 23 June. The festival is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, who baptized the Lord Jesus on the Jordan River and is celebrated at the beginning of monsoon. Siolim,
a village in North Goa, hosts a traditional canoe parade on the occasion of Sao Joao.
