Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh became the first certified Har Ghar Jal district in the country
Recently, Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh has become the first certified Har Ghar Jal district of the country. In all 254 villages of Burhanpur, people are getting clean
drinking tap water. At the time of the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission on 15 August, 2019, only 36.5 percent households in the district had access to tap water.
In spite of various hurdles and challenges including the COVID pandemic, tab water has been made available to all 1,01,905 households in the district in just 34 months with the consistent efforts of Panchayat representatives, Jal Samiti and district officials.
Launched in 2019, the mission envisages supplying 55 liters of water per person per day to eachn rural household by 2024 through 'Functional Household Tap
Connections' (FHTC). This mission comes under the Ministry of Jal Shakti and ensures the functionality of existing water supply systems and water connections; Along with monitoring and testing water quality, it also promotesbsustainable agriculture.
