Draupadi Murmu became the first woman tribal president of the country
Draupadi Murmu has been elected as the 15th President of the Republic of India on 21 July, 2022.
With this, she has become the first tribal woman president and second woman president of India. She will replace current President Ram Nath Kovind, whose term will end on 24 July, 2022. She has defeated the opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha.

Draupadi Murmu became the first Indian tribal president. She was born on 20 June, 1958 in a Santhali tribal family in Uparbeda village ofMayurbhanj district of Odisha. She started out as a school teacher before entering politics in 1997. She worked as Assistant Professor at Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Institute, Rairangpur.
She was also a Junior Assistant in the Irrigation Department, Government of Odisha. She served
as the 9th Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021. She became the first woman tribal governor of India and the first woman tribal leader of Odisha to be appointed as the governor of an Indian state.
She served as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly for two terms from Rairangpur constituency, representing the BJP. She was also appointed as the
President of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat in 2000. She also served as the National Vice President of the BJP Scheduled Tribes Morcha. She also served as Minister of State with independent charge for commerce and transport from 6 March, 2000 to 6 August, 2002.
