Indian Army launches 'Him-Drone-a-thon'
On August 08, 2022, the Indian Army has launched the 'Him Drone- a-thon’ program' in collaboration with the Drone Federation of India. The initiative is in line with the self- reliance in the defense manufacturing sector and aims to encourage the Indian drone ecosystem to develop path-leading drone capability keeping in view
the requirements of the troops at the border.
The program will be conducted in collaboration between all stakeholders including industry, academia, software developers and drone product manufacturers.
Drone is a general term used for unmanned aircraft.
There are three sub-sets of unmanned aircraft – remotely piloted aircraft, autonomous aircraft and model aircraft. A remotely piloted aircraft consists of a remote pilot station, necessary command and control links and other components. A remotely piloted aircraft consists of a remote pilot station, essential command
and control links and other components.
Drones are divided into five categories on the basis of their weight: Nano - less than 250 grams, Micro - 250 grams to 2 kg, Small - from 2 kg upto 25 kg, Medium - from 25 kg up to 150 kg, Large- more than 150 kg.
