One MLA, One Pension Scheme implemented in Punjab
Following approval from Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit, the state government notified an act called the Punjab State Legislature Members (Regulation of Pension and Medical Facilities) Act, 2022, which implements the 'One MLA, One Pension' scheme in the state.
The bill, passed by the state assembly on June 30, has got the assent of the governor. The Act amends the Punjab State Legislature Members (Regulation of Pension and Medical Facilities) Act, 1977.
The Act provides that the MLA of a state shall be given pension for only one term, irrespective of the.number of times he is elected. Earlier MLAs in the state could get pension for each term elected to the assembly. According to an estimate, the state government will save about Rs 19.53 crore annually from this scheme.
