Madhya Pradesh won the title of Ranji Trophy 2021-22
for the first time
On 26 June, 2022, Madhya Pradesh has won the title of Ranji Trophy 2021-22 by defeating 41-time champion Mumbai. Madhya Pradesh team has won this tournament for the first time. Madhya Pradesh beat Mumbai by six wickets in the final match played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Batting first after
winning the toss, Mumbai scored 374 runs in the first innings. In response to this, Madhya Pradesh scored a huge score of 536 runs.
Mumbai team scored 269 runs in the second innings. Madhya Pradesh had a target of 108 runs in the fourth innings of the match. Madhya Pradesh achieved this by
losing four wickets. With this, Madhya Pradesh became the 20th team to win the Ranji Trophy.

The captain of Madhya Pradesh was Aditya Srivastava and the captain of Mumbai was Prithvi Shaw.

Ranji Trophy Tournament
The Ranji Trophy tournament is being played since 1934. The first match was played between Madras
and Mysore at the Chepauk Ground from 4 November 1934. Its trophy was donated by Bhupinder Singh,
the Maharaja of Patiala.
Mumbai has won this tournament the most by 41 times. From 1958-59 to 1972-73, the Mumbai team won the title 15 times in a row. Last year (2020/21 season) Ranji Trophy was canceled for the first time in 86 years. This was because of Corona.
Ranji Trophy named after Maharaja
Ranjit Singh
Ranji Trophy is named after Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He was the Maharaja of Navanagar (present- day Jamnagar) State in India from 1907 to 1933. Maharaja Ranjit Singh was the first Indian cricketer who got a chance to play for the England cricket team.
He played 15 Test matches for England from 1896 to 1902. There was no Indian cricket team at that time. After the death of Ranjit Singh, the domestic tournament Ranji Trophy was started in India in his name from 1934.
