Eminent historian Dr. Enamul Haque passed away in Dhaka
Eminent archaeologist, historian and former Director General of Bangladesh National Museum Dr. Enamul Haque passed away in Dhaka on 11 July, 2022. He was 85 years old. Dr. Enamul Haque was awarded the Padma Shri in the year 2020 for his work on Bengal's
terracotta and sculpture.
Dr. Enamul Haque played an.important role in the establishment of the Bangladesh National
Museum. He was appointed its Director in 1973 and served as Director General from 1983 to 1991. Dr. Haque is credited with discovering and collecting many priceless sculptures from various archaeological sites in Bangladesh.
He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in the year 2016 and was awarded Bangladesh Independence Day Award; the highest civilian award in 2020. Dr. Enamul Haque was a versatile personality. He was a scholar, museologist, cultural activist, freedom fighter, lyricist and a prolific personality.
