What is PMO ?

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) refers to a group of officers and employees directly below the Prime Minister of India. The principal secretary is its highest authority. Till 1977 the 'Prime Minister's Office' was called 'Prime Minister's Secretariat' which was changed to 'Prime Minister's Office' during Morarji Desai’s Government. The PMO provides secretarial assistance to the Prime Minister.
